The Myanmar Embassy in Singapore announced that Myanmar citizens staying in Singapore should bring their national registration cards (NRCs) to renew their passports.

The renewal of passports of Myanmar nationals working in Singapore is done only after income tax has been paid. When registering for income tax payment, some Myanmar nationals have wrong NRCs numbers. The embassy said that it has been verified that someone else's NRCs numbers are being used.

As there are such processes, it is mandatory for those who wish to renew their passports to bring the original or photocopies of the NRCs. If it is lost, new applications need to be made, and the embassy has informed them to avoid paying income tax by using the NRCs numbers of other people.

Currently, the relevant embassies have announced that those working abroad will be able to renew their passports only after paying income tax.

Singapore is one of the countries where the most Myanmar migrant workers go to work.
