Two consecutive days of minor earthquakes recorded near Tanai and Yedashe

A minor earthquake with a magnitude of 4.0 on the Richter scale struck near the town of Tanai, following two consecutive days of seismic activity, according to announcements from the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology.

The earthquake occurred at approximately 1:32 PM Myanmar Standard Time on October 14, 2024. It was centered about 55 miles northwest of the Myitkyina Seismic Station (approximately 19 miles southeast of Tanai), at a latitude of 26.12° N and a longitude of 96.88° E, with a depth of 11 kilometers.

Similarly, on October 13, 2024, at around 1:22 AM Myanmar Standard Time, another minor earthquake with a magnitude of 3.0 was recorded. This earthquake was centered approximately 13 miles northeast of the Taungoo Seismic Station (about 8 miles northeast of Yedashe), at a latitude of 19.11° N and a longitude of 96.47° E, with a depth of 10 kilometers, as reported by the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology.
