A delivery driver has been left hospitalised after a vicious Dublin assault in which his bike was stolen.

At around 9pm on Saturday, October 12 in Finglas, Alan Jose de Lima was rushed to hospital after an alleged attack while at work, with his bike stolen in the course of the incident.

During the attack, Alan, who is originally from Rio de Janeiro in Brazil, had a bone in his leg broken, meaning he will be off work for months as he undergoes surgery and physiotherapy.

A GoFundMe has now been launched to help raise funds to get Alan a new bicycle, as it is his main source of income, and to help him as he recovers from the horrific attack in Connolly Hospital Blanchardstown.

A post on the GoFundMe site read: "Hi, I'm Marcos and I'm raising funds for our friend Alan, he's a delivery driver in Dublin, originally from Rio de Janeiro - Brazil.

"Alan was attacked while at work and had his bike stolen, his main work tool, his main source of income! This happened on Saturday, October 12, in Finglas around 9pm.

"In the attack, his tibia-fibula bone located in his leg was broken, he will undergo surgery, and physiotherapy and will be off work for months, he is currently admitted to Connolly Hospital Blanchardstown."

A Garda spokesperson told the Irish Mirror they are investigating an alleged assault and theft that occurred in Finglas last Saturday, with enquiries ongoing.

They said: "Gardaí are investigating an alleged incident of assault and theft from a person in Finglas, Dublin 11 on Saturday 12 October. Enquiries are ongoing."
