The firearm was made safe following the seizure and will now be sent on to the Ballistics Section of the Garda Technical Bureau to undergo analysis. The drugs seized will be sent to FSI (Forensic Science Ireland) for analysis.

The man, who is in his 20s, was arrested and detained at a Garda Station in the Dublin Metropolitan Region pursuant to Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act, 1939. Gardaí said that investigations are ongoing.

This seizure forms part of Operation Tara, an enhanced national anti-drugs strategy launched by Garda Commissioner Drew Harris in July 2021. The goal of Operation Tara is to protect communities from the scourge of illegal drugs in line with An Garda Síochána’s mission of Keeping People Safe.

The focus of Operation Tara is to disrupt, dismantle and prosecute drug trafficking networks, at all levels - international, national, local - involved in the importation, distribution, cultivation, production, local sale and supply of controlled drugs.

Under Operation Tara, individuals and groups involved in the drug trade will be the target of enforcement activity based on intelligence and the latest crime trends.
