A Polish “career criminal” and his wife - whose car, thousands of euros in cash and luxury goods are to be seized by the Criminal Assets Bureau - lived the ‘high life’ with overseas trips including a holiday to Somalia, a court has heard.

Marcin Slupinski, 37, and his partner Alexander Klechowitz, who live in Crowspark Court in Dublin, took trips to Somalia, Malaga, Poland, Barcelona, Fuerteventura and Palmero in 2017 and 2018 and paid €27k in cash for a luxury Audi A7, the High Court heard on Wednesday.

This is despite Slupinski not having any legitimate income since 2019 and Klechowitz having no legitimate income since 2017.

Slupinski, who had a false driving licence and used a false name Dominik Maniszewski, has been involved in criminal activity, a sworn affidavit by a senior CAB officer, read out in court, said.

The affidavit said Slupinski is “involved in a network of Polish criminals,” and has a conviction for assault in Northern Ireland, seven road traffic convictions in the Republic of Ireland as well as a conviction for using a false name and multiple convictions in Poland for drugs, threats and stalking, the court heard.

“They have no significant earnings to explain their assets,” the affidavit continued.

Klechowitz's name was transferred to the Audi A7 that Slupinski paid €27k in cash for, but she claimed she couldn’t remember where she bought it.

She spent over €4,000 in cash on luxury goods in Brown Thomas including two Gucci products and paid €1,700 in cash on a Prada handbag in Kildare Village in 2019 at the time when she had “no legitimate cash," the court heard.

The court heard €8,700 in cash and was found after Slupinski was stopped in a vehicle, along with two TAG Heuer watches and a ladies Gucci watch.

The court heard a total of €42,89 was lodged to Klechowitz’s bank account in 2018 despite having no legitimate income and Slupinski having ‘a modest income,’ the court heard.

Mr Justice Alexander Owens said Slupinski “appears to be flitting between Northern Ireland, here and Poland and managed to get himself in the Belfast Telegraph for an assault and aggravated burglary in an attack on a home in Dungannon as part of a drugs feud.”

“His explanation to gardai for the Audi car and cash is that he sells a few cars. He is a career criminal from Poland macerating as Dominik Maniszewski and had a false driving licence.

Mr Justice Owens said there was evidence the couple were found in a Cavan property in 2016 where there were grow houses and said “they are steeped in criminality with cash coming into both accounts.”

“What concerns me is I can’t see what sources the cash can be from other than criminal activity,” said the judge and said the “overall evidence from the CAB officer is there is ample and good reason to believe all the items purchased are the proceeds of crime.”

The judge made a Section 3 order for the CAB to seize all of the assets.
