Gardai and fire brigade rushed to Grand Canal after tents sheltering asylum seekers set on fire

The fire was put out by local fire services with no injuries reported

Gardaí are making enquiries after tents sheltering asylum seekers who are experiencing homelessness were set alight.

A number of incidents have occurred along a stretch of the Grand Canal in Dublin where asylum seekers have been staying in tents over recent months.

On Monday evening, Gardaí and crew attached to Dublin Fire Brigade were rushed to reports of a fire at Clanwilliam Place.

Thankfully, the fire was extinguished by members of the fire service and no injuries were reported following the incident.

A Garda spokesperson said: “Gardaí and fire services responded to reports of a fire at Clanwilliam Place in Dublin 2 on Monday afternoon, 30 September 2024. The fire was put out by local fire services. No injuries were reported. Enquiries ongoing.”
