Woman, 30s, in critical condition following two-car collision in Cork city

The driver of the second vehicle, a man in his 40s, was assessed at the scene and did not require immediate hospital treatment

A woman is in critical condition following a two-vehicle collision in Cork this morning.

The crash occurred on the N28 at Carrs Hill, Mount Oval in the city around 10am. The woman, who is aged in her 30s, was seriously injured when her car collided with a second vehicle.

She was rushed by ambulance to Cork University Hospital, where she remains in a critical condition. The driver of the other car, a man aged in his 40s, was assessed at the scene and did not require hospital treatment.

The road was closed to traffic following the accident pending a technical examination, but has since reopened and diversions have been lifted.

Gardaí are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the crash to make contact with investigators.

“Shortly after 10am, gardaí and emergency services were alerted to a two-car collision on the N28 at Carrs Hill, Mount Oval,” said a spokesperson.

“The driver of one of the cars, a woman in her late 30s, was taken by ambulance to Cork University Hospital. Her condition is understood to be critical. The driver of the second car, a man in his 40s, was assessed at the scene and did not require immediate hospital treatment.

“The scene has been technically examined and the road has fully reopened. All traffic diversions have now been lifted.

“Investigating gardaí are appealing for witnesses to come forward. They are also requesting road users with camera footage, including dashcam video, from the area at the time of the collision to make it available to assist with their investigation,” they added.
