Motorist on bail for drink driving nabbed speeding at over 200km/h under influence
by Cathal Ryan · Irish MirrorGardaí have nabbed a driver speeding at over 200km/h while twice over the legal alcohol limit, who was on bail for driving while intoxicated.
Cork Gardaí on the M8 were on patrol in an unmarked car when the audacious motorist dangerously overtook the officers.
As the Gardaí signed for the driver to pull in, he then zoomed off at more than 200km/h while “weaving in and out of traffic”. Authorities eventually caught the speeding motorist, who was found to be twice the legal limit when he was brought back to the station.

“Gardaí in Mitchelstown were on patrol in an unmarked car along the M8 near Watergrasshill, Cork yesterday evening when they were dangerously overtaken by this car,” a Garda spokesperson wrote on social media.
“When they prompted the driver to pull in he took off at over 200km/h while weaving in and out of traffic. The driver was eventually stopped and it became clear to Gardaí that he was intoxicated.
“He then failed a roadside breath test so he was arrested. Back at the station, he was found to be almost twice the legal limit.
“We also discovered that this was the second time this month that this driver was detected driving while intoxicated in this car, and he was on bail. He is now before the courts for both occasions.”
Penalties on conviction for drink driving vary depending on the amount of alcohol that has been detected in your system.
The court will also take into account whether this is your first offence or otherwise. Under the penalties introduced by the Road Traffic Act 2006, all convictions for drink driving result in a mandatory disqualification from driving.
This driver also broke the speed limit, meaning they are subject to receiving three penalty points and a fixed charge fine of €160. If you do not pay the fine within 28 days, it increases to €240.
