Part of Wairoa River to close for laying of new cable
· RNZPart of Northland's longest navigable river will be off-limits to boats during three consecutive days next week while lines company Northpower installs new submarine cables.
The Wairoa River will be closed between Tikinui and Raupo, just north of Ruawai, from Tuesday, 26 November.
The closures will take effect from 6am to 6pm daily.
"This is an exciting advancement in our work to upgrade our network and improve the reliability of our electricity supply," Northpower said.
"There will be increased activity on the river as Northpower conducts the work on Monday 25 and Friday 29 November."
A Northpower spokesperson said the existing underwater power cables supplying the Poutō Peninsula had reached the end of their useful life.
