Police probe unexplained death in Christchurch

Police are looking into an unexplained death in the Christchurch suburb of New Brighton.

A police spokesperson said emergency services responded to a report of a person in a critical condition around 7.20pm on Monday.

The person was taken to hospital but died some time later.

The spokesperson said at this stage, the death is being treated as unexplained and police are making inquiries into the circumstances surrounding it.

A scene examination is being conducted at the property.

People have been told to expect an increased police presence in the area.
