Arrest made after early-morning Wellington assault

A man has been arrested after another was critically injured in central Wellington at the weekend.

The assault happened about 3.20am Sunday on Courtenay Place, outside the old Reading Cinema, police said.

The victim - a 21-year-old man - remained in hospital in a critical condition.

A 29-year-old has been charged with wounding with reckless disregard, and was due to appear in Wellington District Court on Monday.

Police said they would like to hear from anyone with information on the incident, especially two women sitting nearby "and who would have witnessed what happened".
