Man taken to hospital and residents evacuated after St Andrews house fire

A man was taken to hospital and several residents evacuated after an overnight house fire in St Andrews.

Firefighters tackled the blaze on Braid Crescent, close to East Sands beach for more than six hours on Thursday morning.

Smoke damage is visible on the outside of the house, with emergency services still in attendance.

Police say there are no suspicious circumstances.

A spokesperson said: “Around 2.35am on Thursday 10 October 2024 we were made aware of a fire on Braid Crescent in St Andrews.

“Emergency services attended and one man was taken to hospital as a precaution.

“A number of residents have also been evacuated.

“Officers remain at the scene however there do not appear to be any suspicious circumstances.”

One witness said: “There’s still a fairly significant emergency service response there, with around a dozen firefighters at the scene I think.

“It looks a pretty bad fire, you can see the smoke damage on the outside of the house and you can smell the smoke in the air.

“I just hope everyone is okay.”

Firefighters tackle ‘significant’ blaze in St Andrews for six hours

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service confirmed the fire was “significant”.

A spokesperson said: “We are still in attendance at a house fire on Braid Crescent in St Andrews.

“We received the call at 2.09am.

“Crews used two breathing apparatus, a thermal imaging camera and one hose reel jet.

“It was significant but we have no casualty details.

“Police were informed.”

One appliance remained at the scene after 10am with firefighters still working.
