According to the previous reports, this update is expected to be released in the first week of December. However, the launch date is yet to be confirmed by the company. Besides ChatGPT, the iOS 18.2 will also bring a handful of other AI-powered features, including Image Playground, Genmoji, Visual Intelligence and new updates on the writing tools. This comes after Apple released iOS 18.1 in October.

iOS 18.2 to launch in December: Upcoming features

Apple’s upcoming iOS 18.2 introduces exciting advancements, focusing on enhanced customisation, AI integration, and visual tools. Here’s a look at what’s new:

Genmoji: Personalised emoji creation

Genmoji is set to revolutionise emojis by offering users the ability to create unique, customisable designs beyond the limitations of Unicode. Using a dedicated API, Genmoji works seamlessly across apps supporting rich text on Apple devices. Users can design their own emojis by simply describing the desired appearance or even basing them on people in their photo library.

ChatGPT integration with Siri

In collaboration with OpenAI, Apple is integrating ChatGPT into iPhones, iPads, and Macs, significantly boosting Siri’s capabilities. This partnership enables Siri to handle more complex tasks like generating text, creating images, and providing summaries.

Writing tools enhancements

Siri, powered by ChatGPT, can now generate creative and illustrated content. iOS 18.2 expands tone adjustment options to include custom settings, allowing users to tweak text for specific styles—whether it’s adding action verbs or turning an email into poetry.

Image Wand in Notes

The Notes app introduces the Image Wand, a tool that generates images to complement your notes. By circling an empty space or a drawing with your finger (or Apple Pencil on iPad), you can create visuals based on your text or sketches, enhancing creativity and expression.

Image Playground: A Creative Hub

Image Playground, a new app, enables users to generate stylised images by entering prompts. Offering categories like themes, costumes, and locations, the app is ideal for producing animation-style or illustration-like visuals.

- Users can incorporate likenesses of friends and family by selecting images from their Photos library.
- Image Playground integrates with apps like Notes and Messages while supporting third-party app functionality.

Visual Intelligence for iPhone 16 Series

Owners of the iPhone 16 series gain access to Visual Intelligence, a feature that provides real-time insights about their surroundings. Pointing your camera at objects or places—such as restaurants—delivers detailed information, including reviews and operating hours.

With iOS 18.2, Apple is taking significant strides toward seamless AI-powered experiences, empowering users to customise their digital interactions and explore new creative possibilities.
