The Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) and the Andhra Pradesh government have joined hands to drive innovation and strengthen digital skills. Eight agreements were signed between the two, focusing on deep-tech innovation, digital education, maritime research, and governance systems.

A deep-tech incubation park is set to come up in Amaravati, with IIT Madras providing consultancy for its establishment. The institute will also enable partnerships between Andhra Pradesh and international universities, according to IIT Madras Director Professor V Kamakoti.

IIT Madras will introduce digital skilling programmes across the state through its platforms like SWAYAM Plus and Vidhya Shakti. These initiatives aim to upskill students and teachers while bridging gaps in the digital workforce.

Andhra Pradesh’s aviation industry is poised for growth as Kuppam and Puttaparthi are being developed as logistics and maintenance hubs.

Maritime research and coastal energy harvesting technologies will also receive support, promising economic opportunities in the region.

The partnership will strengthen Visakhapatnam’s role as a global internet gateway. Leveraging IIT Madras’ expertise, Vizag is expected to transform into a critical hub for data connectivity.

Amaravati’s Smart Tech-Enabled Sports City project will integrate cutting-edge technology with sports infrastructure, aiming to position the city as a sports innovation centre.

IIT Madras will also help develop advanced governance systems using AI and data science to enhance administrative efficiency.

On the collaboration, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu shared on X, “Met with a delegation from IIT Madras, led by Director Prof. Veezhinathan Kamakoti to explore transformative collaborations for Andhra Pradesh.”

This partnership marks a significant step in bringing advanced technologies and transformative projects to Andhra Pradesh, setting the stage for its economic and social development.
