  • Positions offer a salary range from Rs 47,600 to Rs 1,51,100 in pay matrix level 8
  • New PGT roles target secondary and senior secondary education levels

In a significant move to strengthen the education sector, Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena has approved the creation of 200 additional Post Graduate Teacher (PGT) positions in Delhi government schools. The announcement was made through a statement from Raj Niwas on Saturday.

These newly sanctioned posts will cater to secondary and senior secondary levels under the Delhi Directorate of Education. The positions will fall under pay matrix level 8, offering a salary range of Rs 47,600 to Rs 1,51,100. This development aims to enhance the quality of education in the capital's government schools.

The initiative seeks to tackle issues such as favouritism, corruption, reservation violations, and employee harassment, often associated with non-permanent roles, as highlighted by the lieutenant governor's office.

Presently, more than 9,500 Children with Disabilities (CwD) are enrolled in classes 9 to 12 in Delhi government schools.

ADDRESSING THE SHORTAGE OF SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHERS

Currently, only 283 PGTs for Special Education are employed, falling short of the 301 sanctioned posts, leaving many students underserved. Despite 609 government schools in the capital catering to Children with Disabilities (CwD) at the senior secondary level, the shortage of special education teachers has created challenges for these institutions in meeting the daily needs of inclusive education, the statement added.

The newly approved positions will strengthen the current workforce, ensuring that the government's inclusive education policies are effectively implemented in line with the Right to Education Act 2009, the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act 2016, and the National Education Policy 2020.

This decision stemmed from a collaborative assessment process conducted by the Directorate of Education in consultation with the Administrative Reform, Planning, and Finance Departments of the Delhi government, as stated in the announcement.

Saxena has also stressed the need to promptly fill vacant positions in government schools across Delhi through exams conducted by the DSSSB.

The ongoing recruitment drive aims to address further vacancies, including those for Post Graduate Teachers, Trained Graduate Teachers, and Nursery Teachers in the capital's government schools.
