The results of the Delhi University Students' Union elections are set to be announced on November 21. The results are being announced almost two months after the elections were held.

The elections, which were held on September 27, were initially expected to conclude the following day with the announcement of results. This year, only 51,379 out of 1.45 lakh eligible voters participated, marking the lowest voter turnout in at least a decade.

The election led to widespread defacement of public spaces due to campaign materials. The Delhi High Court took note of the issue and put a stay on the results until the defacement concerns were resolved.

DUSU ELECTION RESULTS: COUNTING OF VOTES

The vote counting for both the central panel and college representatives will begin at 8:30 am on November 21 at the DU Conference Centre, with an Election Commission team present, according to an official.
The Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) were securely stored in a strong room at the examination department, under 24-hour police surveillance. Meanwhile, the ballot boxes were kept safely in the respective colleges.

Preparations are underway for the November 21 counting. Most of the cleaning work has already been completed. The EVMs and ballot papers will be opened in the presence of the Election Commission's team to maintain transparency, a Delhi University official was quoted as saying by the news agency PTI.

The election for the central panel of DUSU, which includes the president, vice president, secretary, and joint secretary positions, was held using EVMs. In contrast, ballot papers were used for the election of college representatives.

In a ruling on Monday, the High Court partially lifted the stay, allowing the counting process to move forward on the condition that all campaign-related defacement is cleared. The court also granted the university permission to announce the results by November 26, contingent upon these conditions being fulfilled.
