Himachal chief minister to rank colleges, boost infrastructure in education sector

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu announced on Saturday that the state government is considering a system to rank colleges and is in the process of developing a formula for it. Speaking at a programme organised by the Alumni Association at Government Degree College in Sanjauli, he highlighted the state's focus on strengthening educational infrastructure.

Sukhu revealed plans to build an arts block, a girls' hostel, and a parking area within the next two years at the college. He also pledged Rs 50 lakh to the Alumni Association to support its initiatives. The CM emphasised the government's commitment to improving educational facilities and ensuring quality education, with ample funding available for these efforts.

Looking ahead to the next budget, Sukhu shared that education would receive special attention, outlining the government's goal to rectify the mistakes of previous administrations. He also reflected on his own college days, reminiscing about his time at the institution and his early political experiences, including a college election rivalry with his media advisor Naresh Chauhan.

Sukhu urged students to stay away from drugs, noting that the government is taking strong measures against drug-related activities. He further announced the introduction of new courses aimed at enhancing students' skills and improving employment prospects.

Justice Sandeep Sharma of the Himachal Pradesh High Court, an alumnus of the college, also shared his gratitude, acknowledging how the institution played a pivotal role in shaping his career.
