'Yorkshire puddings catch fire' in Brislington house blaze

Fire crews rushed to the scene to extinguish the oven fire

Firefighters rushed to prevent a Sunday tragedy after fire broke out at a house in Brislington. Crews were called to Repton Road, shortly before 5pm yesterday (October 6) after an eyewitness claimed a household's Yorkshire puddings caught fire.

Avon Fire and Rescue Service confirmed a fire was found in an oven at the property. Firefighters removed the oven from the house to stop the fire from spreading, as well as switching off both the electricity and gas supply.

No injuries were reported at the scene and crews used a fan to ventilate smoke from the home.

An eyewitness told BristolLive: "3 fire engines in attendance at a house in Repton Road, Brislington. Yorkshire puddings caught on fire! Doesn't seem to be any casualties."

Avon Fire and Rescue Service said: "On Sunday 6th October at 4:52 pm we were called to reports of an oven fire in a house on Repton Road, Brislington.

"Crews from Temple and Hicks Gate removed the oven from the property and stopped the fire from spreading. The crews also turned off the electricity and gas and used a fan to ventilate the property from the smoke caused by the fire. Thankfully there were no casualties.

"The cause of the fire is thought to be accidental."
