Young woman seriously injured in crash with police car
by Shannon Brown · BristolLiveA pedestrian involved in a collision with a police car has been left with serious injuries that may impact the rest of her life. An unmarked Avon and Somerset Police car responding to an emergency incident was involved in the collision in Emersons Green.
The car had its blue lights and a siren on at the time of the crash, around 6.30pm on Sunday, November 25, on the A4174 roundabout with Badminton Road. Despite receiving medical treatment from police and paramedics at the scene, a 19-year-old woman sustained potentially life-changing injuries and was taken to hospital.
Her next of kin are aware and are being supported by Avon and Somerset Police. The officers in the vehicle were not injured in the crash. Avon and Somerset Police said it has referred the incident to the Independent Office for Police Conduct to investigate.
The force said in a statement: "An unmarked police car responding to an emergency was in collision with a pedestrian in South Gloucestershire on Sunday (November 24).
"The incident happened on the roundabout where the A4174 joins Badminton Road, in Emersons Green, at around 6.30pm. The police car was using blue lights and a siren at the time of the incident.
"Officers provided first aid to the pedestrian, a 19-year-old woman, alongside paramedics. She was taken to hospital with injuries which are potentially life-changing. Her next of kin are aware and we’ll be providing them with support. The officers in the vehicle were not injured in the collision and will be offered welfare support.
"As is standard practice following an incident in which there’s been a serious injury following police contact, we’ve made a mandatory referral to the Independent Office for Police Conduct."
