Youth centre opening in former pub in Bristol

It will be the only service of its kind in the area

A new youth club in Barton Hill is open its doors in October. It will be located in the former pub The Swan, which closed four years ago.

The building has been renovated by the Wellspring Settlement, a community centre located next door. Wellspring Settlement, which owns the building, plans to work with young people in the area.

The site is on the corner of Morley Street and Bright Street closed in 2020, but converting the old pub building has taken longer than originally expected. Once open, it will be the only building in the area dedicated to youth provision.

The activities will be decided by a planning group, including young people from Barton Hill who are also being invited to name the new building. Young people who have been engaging with staff working on the project have said they often have nowhere to go after school.

While there are existing youth groups in Barton Hill, they lack the resources to run activities every day. Wellspring Settlement is offering youth sessions where young people can discuss their ideas on what they would like to see at the centre.

Young people can attend meetings from 3.30pm to 5pm at Ducie Road and share their ideas. There are regular football sessions where young people can chat with staff. For more information about Wellspring Settlement, visit its website here.
