Police closed M4 to hunt for driver 'who failed to stop after collision'
by Sarah Lumley · BristolLiveThe M4 Eastbound was closed temporarily this evening (Friday) as police hunted for the driver of a car that reportedly failed to stop following a collision.
Three lanes on the Eastbound carriageway between Bristol and Bath were closed for around half an hour, from just before 8.10pm until 8.35pm, as Avon and Somerset Police deployed a police drone and dog units to try and track down the driver, who allegedly had made off on foot.
A police spokesperson said: "The M4 at junction 18 and the A46 were temporarily closed while police searched for the driver of a car which was involved in a collision on the A46 roundabout.
"The collision happened just after 7.10pm. Moments earlier, a Mercedes AMG C43 car had failed to stop for police on the M4 eastbound between junctions 19 and 18.
"The driver of the vehicle made off on foot, and officers on the ground were supported in the search by police drone and dog units. Officers detained a man at 8.22pm.
"If you saw what happened, or have any dashcam or other information, please call 101 and give the log number 944 of Friday 29 November."
