Coroner to investigate two deaths at Nottinghamshire care home in as many days as site remains closed

It is understood the Dannsa House care home in East Markham remains closed more than a year on from the tragic deaths

A Nottinghamshire care home where two men died in two days remains closed more than a year on from the tragedy. Nottinghamshire Police confirmed that two unexpected deaths took place at the in East Markham, a village near Newark, in August 2023.

The first died on Friday, August 25 2023, with a heavy police presence seen in the village after the second death the following day. A small police presence was still seen in the village days after.

Dannsa House is a facility that provides care for five young adults with autism, learning disabilities and complex needs. It is operated by the Kisimul Group, which also runs the Salisbury House residential home in East Markham.

It is understood that the facility remains closed and Kisimul said inquests into both deaths are expected to take place in November but this has not yet been confirmed by the coroner. Anita Andrews, CEO of Kisimul: "We have continued to follow the advice of the police and authorities and will await the conclusion of the inquest before making any further update regarding Dannsa House."

In a statement at the time of the incident at Dannsa House, the Kisimul Group said: "Our thoughts are with the family and friends of those who died. Our residents and staff at the home are being supported and we are working in full cooperation with the police to support their ongoing inquiry." Dannsa House is located on Top Cart Gaps, next to East Markham's village hall.
