Nottingham City Council has agreed a deal for another one of the empty properties it owns in Birmingham. It was recently reported that the authority had agreed a new tenant for an empty pub it owns in Sutton Coldfield.

Weeks later, the council has now confirmed a new tenant for an empty restaurant it owns - also in Sutton Coldfield. Both sites form part of the Mulberry Walk development, which houses businesses including the Bistrot Pierre restaurant chain.

The venue underwent a multimillion-pound refurbishment just two years ago. In a report published on October 7, the city council confirms a deal has been agreed for a tenant to occupy the former Prezzo restaurant.

The Italian food chain confirmed in 2023 that its Mulberry Walk site would be closing along with 45 other sites across the country. Nottingham City Council has not confirmed who the new tenant will be for commercial reasons.

The authority says: "The unit has been actively marketed and a number of food outlet applicants expressed interest and made proposals...The terms of the new lease have been negotiated on the council's behalf by the joint agents...who have recommended that the council proceed with the proposed new lease.

"By granting the lease the council will reduce costs associated with a void unit and produce income towards the council's income targets. The letting will complement and widen the retail offer from this development and provide a rental income stream for a significant period."

The Labour-led authority owns commercial assets across the country that are used to generate revenue for the support of its services. Another one of these assets is the building which is home to The Old School House pub in Mere Green Road in Sutton Coldfield.

Birmingham Live reported that the former Greene King venue closed its doors for the final time on July 21. A new tenant is now set to occupy the venue, though the city council have again not confirmed who at this stage.
