An inquest has been opened into the death of a woman following a house fire in Nottingham. Izabela Chalastra, 46, died on Thursday, March 7, at Nottingham City Hospital, six days after the terraced bungalow in which she lived in Forster Street, Radford, was engulfed in flames on Friday, March 1.

Despite emergency services attending the incident just after 5pm, Ms Chalastra suffered critical injuries, which ultimately led to her death. Coroner Sarah Wood opened an inquest into the death of Ms Chalastra at Nottingham Council House on Wednesday, October 2.

Ms Wood said: "I certify that in accordance to my statutory duty, I have now opened an inquest touching on the death of Izabela Chalastra. This hearing now stands adjourned for completion of further inquires and will be resumed for a final hearing on a date yet to be fixed.

"I wish to express my sincere condolences to the family and friends of Izabela Chalastra." The hearing was told a post-mortem examination has been carried out into the woman's death, with a provisional cause of death established as 1a multiple organ failure and 1b severe burns.

A man aged 62 was previously arrested on suspicion of murder as part of a police investigation into the fire. Before that, he had been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and released on conditional bail and re-arrested following Ms Chalastra's death.

He has now been released without charge following a "long and complicated" investigation. Detective Inspector Craig Hall said: "First and foremost, our thoughts remain with the family and friends of Izabela Chalastra who sadly lost her life after a fire at her property in March this year.

"This has been a long and complicated investigation where we have sought the assistance of experts and carried out in depth analysis, which has included CCTV and forensic science. We have gathered a lot of evidence, and the investigation found this fire has not been caused by a criminal act.

"We have met the family of Izabela and explained the investigation and all the evidence collated. The family have remained at the heart of everything we do. They understandably want answers into how their loved one has died. We have now prepared a report to the coroner."
