Nottingham thug beat partner with TV remote and threatened to stab her to death
by Joshua Hartley · NottinghamshireLiveAn abusive Nottingham thug threatened to stab his partner to death, strangled her, and beat her with a TV remote. Tyler Cooke, 23, subjected his then girlfriend to a horrific series of attacks at a property in Blidworth Close, Strelley, in August.
Cooke had threatened to kill his terrified victim with a kitchen knife at around 1.30pm on August 3 and said he would harm her if she tried to leave the home. He then pinned her down to the floor by placing his hands on her wrists and his knees on her body.
The following morning he beat her over the head with a TV remote control. Nottinghamshire Police were called to the address at around 10pm, as the force had been sent a text asking for help from his victim.
Cooke, of Lindfield Road, Broxtowe, initially denied assaulting his victim but later pleaded guilty to making threats to kill, assault by beating and intentional strangulation. He also admitted to possessing cannabis.
Appearing at Nottingham Crown Court on Monday, November 25, he was jailed for 36 months. Detective Sergeant Chloe Palmer, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: "Cooke subjected this young woman to a sustained and frightening ordeal that put her in fear of her life.
“Like many victims of male violence, she was initially reluctant to say what had happened to her when police arrived at the scene. It was very clear, however, that something was very wrong inside this address and the officers involved did an excellent job of finding out what had been happening.
“Thanks to their calm and professional approach, a distressed victim was supported to give a very detailed evidential account which brought a violent and abusive relationship to an end."
