Man arrested after 'serious' sexual assault in Nottingham city centre alley
by Joseph Connolly · NottinghamshireLiveA man has been arrested after an alleged sexual assault in a city centre alleyway. Officers were called to Eldon Chambers, off Wheeler Gate between Caffe Nero and Sainsbury's, on Wednesday, November 6.
The courtyard, which is home to businesses such as the No. Twelve restaurant, was cordoned off until the following morning. It meant No. Twelve had to close its doors for the evening.
But police did not explain the reason behind the taping off of the area, with restaurant staff having no idea what had happened. An anonymous staff member at the restaurant said that members of the public had to be escorted in and out of the cordon.
Now nine days after the incident Nottinghamshire Police has issued a short statement. A spokesperson said a 22-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident and granted conditional bail. An investigation into what happened is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact police.
The spokesman added: “A cordon was in place on Wednesday 6 November in Eldon Chambers, Nottingham city centre, following a report of a serious sexual assault. A 22-year-old man was arrested in connection with the incident on 8 November and has since been bailed with conditions.
“Detectives are continuing to investigate the report and anyone with information that could assist our inquiries is asked to call 101 quoting reference 24*656907.”
