In a new documentary chronicling his farewell world tour, pop legend Elton John opened up about mortality. The 77 year old star, who recently concluded his massive Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour with a headline slot at Glastonbury, admitted that he has started to contemplate the future due to his age and recent health issues, according to the Mirror.

In the documentary, Sir Elton pondered: "I wonder what is going to happen to all of this stuff when I finish? This is the latter time of my life. I don't know how much time I have left. You think about that more when you get to my age."

He added: "You think about life and, er, and death. You think, 'Well, I just want to be where I want to be now.'".

The documentary features candid discussions from Sir Elton about his life and potential future as he ages. Over the years, the star has faced numerous health challenges, including knee and hip replacements and prostate cancer surgery.

The documentary includes a conversation in the dressing room of Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, a venue he first played 47 years ago in front of 110,000 fans. Sir Elton's Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour ended in Stockholm in July last year after 330 concerts worldwide, reports the Manchester Evening News.

He further stated: "I don't have to work after this. I will work and do records and putting radio shows together but travelling takes so much out of you.

"It is very tiring. I am used to it. I am a veteran at it but this is where you start to think about mortality."

Sir Elton John's reflections on his health were revealed in the documentary 'Elton John: Never Too Late', which premiered at the BFI London Film Festival on Thursday. The legendary musician, who has sons Zachary, 13, and Elijah, 11, with husband David Furnish, shared his concerns about mortality, not just for himself but as seen through his family's eyes.

"They worry as they know how old I am. Not so much David but me. They love their Daddy so they want me to be around forever."

"I want to be around forever. I want to see them have children, get married but I don't think I am going to be around for that. Who knows? You never know."

"So that is why I want to make the best of my time while I am around. Our time together is so wonderful and so precious," Sir Elton expressed. At an earlier event, he had humorously commented on his many health challenges: "I don't have tonsils, adenoids or an appendix. I don't have a prostate. I don't have a right hip or a left knee or a right knee.

"In fact, the only thing left to me is my left hip. But I'm still here."

Following his knee replacements, Sir Elton was observed having difficulty walking at the 32nd Aids Foundation Oscars viewing party in March, which he hosted.

He underwent hip replacement surgery in 2021 due to an awkward fall on a hard surface. Over the summer, he also disclosed suffering from a severe eye infection, which sadly resulted in limited vision in one eye.

Sir Elton John has opened up about his health struggles, saying, "I am healing, but it's an extremely slow process and it will take some time before sight returns to the impacted eye."

This revelation comes after in 2019, he recounted a harrowing experience following his prostate cancer treatment when he was "24 hours from death" due to an infection. In his memoir, Sir Elton described how, during a flight back from South America, he couldn't control his shaking and by the time he reached King Edward VII's Hospital in London, he felt "worse than I ever had in my life"—a significant statement considering the severe hangovers he endured in the '70s and '80s.

He disclosed that his situation was so critical that the hospital lacked the necessary equipment to treat him, which led to him being transferred and spending two days in intensive care. During those difficult times in the hospital, he prayed, "Please don't let me die, please let me see my kids again, please give me a little longer."

In a new documentary, the Pinner-born musician also touched upon the physical abuse he suffered as a child. Sir Elton shared painful memories of his parents' violence, stating, "They were violent, they were physically violent. I used to walk on eggshells in case I did anything wrong."

He painfully recalled, "My mother when I was a year old she beat me 'til I bled with a wire brush to make me potty trained... my whole childhood was full of fear."

Sir Elton John has spoken out about his complicated relationship with his father, revealing that he never attended any of his performances. The legendary singer, who performed at Glastonbury last year, expressed his sadness about this, stating: "He never saw me live. It is sad. I wish it had been much different. God I wish it had been different."
