Simple kitchen item is 'brilliant' at removing and preventing window condensation

Window condensation can lead to damp and humidity in the home

Condensation on windows can lead to dampness and humidity, potentially causing mould growth. However, Lynsey Crombie, also known as the "Queen of Clean", has shared a simple solution using one common kitchen item - washing-up liquid.

Condensation occurs when warm, moist air comes into contact with a cold surface, such as a window, resulting in water droplets. Washing-up liquid can help eliminate this condensation and prevent it from forming by creating an invisible protective barrier on the window.

Only a small amount is needed for this trick. Lynsey suggests: "Pop a tiny amount [of washing-up liquid] onto a dry microfibre cloth and rub all over the glass pane."

She assures that "you won't get smears as you are using the tiniest amount" of washing-up liquid, reports the Express. She added: "This creates a barrier and prevents condensation. This is such a brilliant old-school tip that works so well."

This cost-effective solution could save you from purchasing a more expensive dehumidifier. The key to combating window moisture is maintaining humidity levels in your home.

With colder weather outside and the cost of running a tumble dryer, drying clothes indoors may be the only option but it does add humidity to your home. Lynsey, a cleaning expert, suggests using a clothes horse in a well-ventilated room to avoid the usual issues associated with indoor drying. She advises finding the sunniest room and placing your laundry in front of an open window.

"Close the door to this room whilst the window is open," she added. Lynsey also mentioned that activities like cooking and showering can increase humidity in the house, so slightly opening a window can help prevent condensation and mould growth.
