Prince Harry's 'foolish' mistake that could risk US residency under Donald Trump
by Sam Dimmer, Bradley Jolly, Joseph Wilkes · NottinghamshireLivePrince Harry and Meghan Markle could face deportation from the United States under incoming President Donald Trump due to a potentially damaging admission made by the Duke of Sussex in the past, which an expert has described as "extremely foolish". In his memoir Spare, Harry revealed his experiences with psychedelic substances, including using magic mushrooms at a party in Los Angeles and smoking marijuana on other occasions. Royal experts have criticised this admission, warning it could have severe consequences for the couple.
Richard Fitzwilliams, a Royal commentator, stated: "Harry was extremely foolish to discuss his drug taking in Spare both in interviews and in the memoir, available in paperback. However, the Sussexes have kept a relatively low profile during the election, urging Americans to vote but not being explicit as to whom for."
Fitzwilliams added that while it was once thought that Meghan might enter politics, there has been no sign of this. He also believes it is unlikely that Trump would risk an embarrassing episode involving the Royal family by expelling Harry, even if it was discovered that he had not disclosed his drug use on his Visa application.
In a conversation with GB News, former President Trump was questioned by Nigel Farage about any "special privileges" for Prince Harry, to which Trump responded: "No. We'll have to see if they know something about the drugs, and if he lied they'll have to take appropriate action," reports the Express.
Farage pressed on, asking: "Appropriate action? Which might mean...not staying in America? " Trump's answer remained vague: "Oh I don't know. You'll have to tell me. You just have to tell me. You would have thought they would have known this a long time ago."
Despite the uncertainty surrounding their US residency, the Royal couple has backup plans after moving to the US in 2020. They are said to have prepared an alternative residence, eyeing Portugal where they've acquired a new holiday home, conveniently close to Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank's abode.
Prince Harry, in his book 'Spare' released in January 2023, recounts a vivid experience at a Hollywood party where he hallucinated seeing a bin morph into a smiling face after consuming magic mushrooms. In a rare display of candour for a member of the Royal family, Harry reveals that while cocaine had negligible effects on him, "Marijuana is different, that actually really did help me."
