Police say officers made a huge discovery after raiding a derelict pub in a Nottinghamshire town. Nottinghamshire Police said it executed a warrant at the Town Mill, in Bridge Street, Mansfield, shortly before 5pm on Friday, September 20, and found more than 2,000 cannabis plants inside the former mill.

The force claimed the plants it had found in the historic Grade-II listed structure were worth more than £1 million. Officers detained a man a short time after the raid near St Peter and St Paul Church, police said.

The plants have been taken away and all the alleged growing equipment has been put beyond use, according to a spokesperson. Emergency work on the building's electrical system was also required after the raid, police added.

Fatmir Khculi, aged 28, has been charged with cultivating cannabis. Khculi, of Bridge Street, Mansfield, appeared at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on Monday, September 23 and was remanded into custody.

He is due to appear at Nottingham Crown Court on 22 October. The Town Mill pub was closed in 2012, but in recent years the council has considered plans to turn it into a restaurant, hotel, or micro-brewery.
