Reporting restrictions were previously in place

Two teenagers from Nottingham who fired a gun which shattered a shop window in The Meadows can now be named. Judge James Sampson lifted reporting restrictions that had previously been put in place when Pharrell McLennan and Romarni Spencer appeared at Nottingham Crown Court this week.

The duo, now aged 18, have both pleaded guilty to the charge of possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life in relation to the incident, which led to the police cordoning off a shopping precinct for a number of hours. They were due to face trial.

The incident took place at the Bridgeway Centre at around 3.25pm on Sunday, May 5. After analysis of CCTV, the two teenagers, who were both 17 at the time and so could not have been named for legal reasons until now, were arrested and charged.

The Co-op was closed after the incident for a number of hours and police put a cordon in place the next day, Bank Holiday Monday, May 6, before the area was reopened.

Police returned the next day and were seen scouring the area for evidence.

Judge Sampson told McLennan, of Maypole, Clifton, and Spencer, of Marlborough Road, Beeston, that they will be sentenced on December 13. He remanded them both into custody until that date.

In a statement released following the charges, Detective Sergeant Alana Scott of Nottinghamshire Police said: “We do not believe anyone was injured during the incident but we take any report of this nature extremely seriously.”
