National Express urges people to keep 'safe distance' as group rescues coach on icy Nottingham road
by Oliver Pridmore · NottinghamshireLiveNational Express says people should keep a "safe distance" from moving vehicles after a huge group of people were seen rescuing a Nottingham coach from an icy road. Videos circulating online show a National Express bus beginning to slide backwards on an icy stretch in Nottingham on Tuesday (November 19).
It followed heavy overnight snowfall on Monday, which caused disruption to Nottingham train and bus services for much of the following day. The online videos show a huge group of young people rushing towards the rear of the coach, which appeared to be carrying passengers at the time.
The group began pushing the coach forward to stop it sliding any further backwards. The service affected was National Express' 450 service, which travels between London and Mansfield.
The incident took place on Derby Road, near the University of Nottingham's south entrance, where the 450 service regularly stops. A spokesperson for National Express, said: "We can confirm National Express service 450 was travelling on Derby Road, Nottingham, on Tuesday, 19th November, when it encountered difficulties in icy conditions.
"While thankfully no one was injured in this incident, we would always advise people to keep a safe distance from a vehicle carrying out a manoeuvre, no matter if their intention was to help." Other regular stops served by the 450 service in around Nottingham include Nottingham Trent University's Clifton campus, the Broad Marsh Bus Station and a stop outside the gates of Newstead Abbey.
