New crossings to be added to busy Nottingham road as closures planned

Work has already begun and is not expected to be finished until early December

New crossings will be added to a busy road in Nottingham, resulting in road and lane closures over the next few months. Nottingham City Council is placing pedestrian and cycle crossings in both A453 Queen's Drive and Meadows Way in an effort to create a better link between "popular off-road" routes.

Work to set up the site and clear vegetation started at the beginning of this week, with traffic set to be managed through temporary two-way traffic lights for the next four weeks. Some parking spaces have also been suspended.

Meadows Way will be closed between Ainsworth Drive and Crossgate Drive from October 21-25 to install ducting and create a raised crossing platform, which the council says will not affect pedestrians and be completed "as soon as possible".

Focus will then turn towards installing a staggered Toucan crossing Queens Drive, leading to lane restrictions during off-peak hours (9.30am – 3.30pm). All the work will be completed by early December.

The work comes as part of the Transforming Cities Funding Programme. There have been a series of highway user improvements along the A453/Queens Drive corridor including signalised junction upgrades to provide traffic light priority for buses, new and improved pedestrian and cycle crossings and better cycle links to routes to the west of the City through the Park and Ride site.
