'Exciting news' as future confirmed for former Wilko store in Sherwood
It has been empty for more than a year
by Joel Moore · NottinghamshireLive"Exciting news" has been announced for the future of one of Nottingham's former Wilko shops. The branch in Mansfield Road, Sherwood shut on September 19, 2023, as part of a wave of Wilko closures across the city and wider county following the retailer's collapse.
The store is one of the few ex-Wilko sites that recently had an uncertain future, with retailers including B&M Bargains and Poundland snapping up many of them. One of the more unusual plans is for the former Wilko in Sutton-in-Ashfield, which could become a construction college under a partnership with West Notts College.
However, after swirling rumours about the Sherwood unit, Heron Foods has announced it will be opening a store. In a social media post advertising new vacancies, it said: "Exciting News for Sherwood.
"We're thrilled to announce that we have a brand new Heron Foods store opening soon on Mansfield Road, Sherwood Nottingham, NG5 2GA. We are recruiting for a full store team and have lots of exciting new job opportunities for people to join us.
"We are looking for Sales Assistants, Senior Sales Assistants and Duty Managers and a Store Cleaner." Heron Foods has been contacted for comment.
