Great British Bake Off star shares Brussels sprouts recipe that even haters will love

by · NottinghamshireLive

Whether you're a fan or foe of the traditional Brussels sprouts, Great British Bake Off's Crystelle Pereira may just change your mind this Christmas. The culinary expert has taken to TikTok to share what she claims is the ultimate recipe to convert even the most ardent Brussels sceptics.

Despite their divisive nature, a 2022 Farmhouse Inns study found that a staggering 20 percent of Britons actually consider sprouts their favourite festive veg. Crystelle's heavenly honey and balsamic vinegar roasted Brussels sprouts are hailed as a must-try for the holidays.

Her simple yet tantalising recipe requires only basic ingredients and straightforward instructions to enchant your taste buds.

Ingredients

  • 500g Brussel sprouts
  • Three tbsp olive oil
  • Pinch of salt and pepper
  • Two tsp garlic powder
  • Three tbsp balsamic vinegar
  • Two tbsp honey
  • Pinch of flakey sea salt (optional)

Kitchen equipment

  • Oven
  • Large dish
  • Pan
  • Knife
  • Chopping board
  • Whisk
  • Wooden spoon

Method

  • To start baking the delicious vegetable, preheat the oven to 170C and simply chop up each sprout in half using a chopping board. Then, add the Brussels, olive oil, salt, pepper and garlic powder into a large dish, and toss together to combine the ingredients. This can be done with your washed hands.
  • Next, turn the sprouts over so the flat side is facing down "so the tops get lovely and crispy and the bottoms go nice and charred," explains Crystelle. Roast these in the oven for 20-minutes. While the sprouts are cooking, make the glaze by combining the vinegar and honey in a pan, over a medium heat.
  • Use a whisk to break up the honey, then switch to a wooden spoon. Keep mixing the two ingredients for around seven minutes, until bubbling and thickened. Pour the glaze over the cooked Brussels, use a spoon to fully combine the mixture, and roast for a further 35-minutes. Once ready, sprinkle the sprouts with a "good amount" of flakey sea salt and enjoy!

The scrumptious preparation was met with rave reactions online, sparking a flood of praise within Crystelle's TikTok comments section. One enamoured follower declared: "Oh man that looks so delicious. I love Brussel sprouts, but those are next level. I will definitely be making these."

Another shared their successful experience: "Oooh I made these today and they're the sprouts of my dreams! ! ! " A comment from an inspired fan simply read: "Making these right now! " indicating the immediate appeal of Crystelle's sprout sensation, reports the Mirror.
