This shocking footage shows a masked robber violently smashing glass display windows to steal tens of thousands of pounds of designer watches from a Nottingham jeweller’s shop.

In the clip the man, who is yet to be found, can be seen to wield a hammer and use it to break into the cabinets before greedily reaching in and snatching Rolex, Oris and Tudor timepieces which Nottingham Crown Court was told were worth as much as £166,000.

Nottinghamshire Police has released the clip on the day one of two men responsible for the robbery at Cope in Upper Parliament Street, was jailed for seven years for the part he played.

Drug addict Luke Boden, 29, of Basford, acted as the lookout at Cope and also rode the as yet unidentified masked robber around on a stolen motorcycle. Sentencing him, Recorder Jaron Crooknorth said: “Cope Jewellers was established in 1845 and has been in Nottingham city centre for more than 150 years. Andrew Cope is the fifth generation to run it and says nothing like this has ever happened to him in 40 years.

“Your 90 seconds in the store will leave a mark on him forever as it will for you for some significant amount of time. You are someone who is used to using violence.”

The robbery took place during a daylight raid at Cope Jewellers, in Upper Parliament Street at around 1.45pm on Tuesday, September 3. Just 15 minutes earlier Boden, who pleaded guilty to robbery and attempted robbery and his partner in crime, were fought off by a jewellery store owner in Long Eaton market place who they also attempted to rob but left empty-handed when he fought back.
