Random: Nintendo's Museum Might Be Emulating SNES Games On Windows PC

It sure sounds like it...

In case you missed it, Nintendo recently opened a Museum in Japan and it's filled with all sorts of displays featuring the company's classic titles. For anyone who has been wondering how exactly Nintendo is showcasing these retro games in its museum, it seems it might be making use of emulation on Windows PC.

As highlighted by PC Gamer, an 'X' user known as 'ChrisMack32' shared a video of a Super Nintendo controller being disconnected (via USB) during a game of Super Mario World at the Museum, and you can reportedly hear the Windows USB disconnection sound play in the background.

Unsurprisingly, this video has spawned mixed reactions on social media. As mentioned by the source, Nintendo has "often legally pursued emulator developers and ROM websites" and the Japanese firm has also previously argued how emulation "stifles innovation".

Some fans have suggested Nintendo could have a PC emulator of its own that it's never made publicly available, but if what we're seeing here is the real deal, it's believed the company is more likely using open source emulators to power its retro displays in the new Museum. It would also mean it doesn't have to worry about maintaining original hardware.

To officially experience a game like Super Mario World nowadays, Nintendo requires users to subscribe to the Switch Online service which gives players access to hundreds of the company's retro titles from the SNES, NES, N64 and handheld eras.

You know, I hate the "Nintendo DMCA's everything and then copies/uses it" joke, but this is just ridiculous.

You’ve became the very thing you sought to destroy!

The next Nintendo console will be "Nintendo Vista".

I'm more offended for the boys at NERD

"Rules for thee, but not for me!" -Nintendo

At this rate, I don't see myself supporting them by buying a Switch 2.

Could be an inhouse Emulator.
Also it's literally their IP....they can emulate it or do whatever they want with it lmao.
Def supporting them by buying a "Switch 2".

If this is true, what’s the problem? The emulators are open source, and Nintendo can’t steal from themselves.

The complaints here make no sense. Nintendo don't have a problem with emulators existing. They have an issue with people emulating their products and them not making a profit off of that. Aren't like all NSO games emulated? Super Mario 3D All-Stars was almost completely emulated.
Weren't the virtual console games emulated?

And now it's a problem???
This is not a "rules for thee, but not for me" thing. It's their own game. They can do with it whatever they want.

I just want to play your amazing games I wasn’t around to play. I wouldn’t have to emulate them if they would let me buy them!

However, and I would be the first to say I don’t like Nintendo taking down stuff and whatnot but this litrally doesn’t count, I mean they own the games do they not? They can’t take from themselves.

Nintendo using emulators to showcase games they own. The horror!

Next thing you'll be telling me that their developers use a PC with a Keyboard and Mouse to develop Switch games rather than writing their code on a Switch with an on-screen keyboard! Oh, the horror!

I feel like this isn't the gotcha moment people want it to be.

"It's believed the company is more likely using open source emulators"

I guess? But where's the evidence? I bet it's also believed, by someone out there, that they built their own emulator. It feels so weird to link to a random person's tweet as if it's evidence of a claim when it's clearly just an opinion.

@Arkay
Exactly. They are literally the rights holder meaning they are THE one who CAN emulate it.
