King Charles pays Alex Salmond tribute after sudden death of former FM aged 69

The former SNP leader is survived by wife Moira.

King Charles has paid tribute to Alex Salmond after his sudden death at 69.

The former First Minister of Scotland died of a suspected heart attack while in North Macedonia for an event.

Salmond spoke at the Institute for Cultural Diplomacy Forum in North Macedonia alongside Alba deputy leader Tasmina Ahmed-Sheikh when he took unwell.

His Majesty said in a message issued by Buckingham Palace: “My wife and I are greatly saddened to hear of the sudden death of Alex Salmond.

“His devotion to Scotland drove his decades of public service. We extend our deep condolences to his family and loved ones at this time.”
