Scots dad found dead six days after going missing 'may have been struck by car'

A dad who was found dead six days after going missing "may have been struck by a car", police have said.

John Geddes, 33, disappeared from the Coulardhill area in Lossiemouth at around 10.30pm on Monday, November 11. A frantic search involving coastguard and lifeboat crews was launched before police confirmed that a body had been found on the A941, near the Moray town, at around 4.30pm on Sunday.

Cops have now said that, following extensive enquiries, they believe John may have been struck by a vehicle. They are following a number of lines of enquiry in relation to this. A car and driver have been traced and enquiries are ongoing.

After John vanished his worried family joined the search as they appealed for help on social media. His sister-in-law Colleen Taylor said: "Please everyone in the Lossie area could you check any sheds and out houses, when out walking keep an eye out for Johnny.

"We are all so very worried time is getting on. Paige and the kids need him home where he belongs, poor bairns keep asking for there dad and Paige is sick with worry trying to stay strong for them."

After John's body was found, Coleen said: "The fact someone could happily go home while my brother-in-law lay there for days waiting to be found! While we were all out searching and praying to God we would find him. Absolutely shocking!"

No one has yet been arrested following the incident. A Police Scotland spokesperson: “We are working to piece together Mr Geddes’ last movements to establish the exact circumstances leading up him being found on Sunday, November 17, 2024.

“A post mortem will take place in due course to establish the cause of death however, following extensive enquiries since he was traced, officers believe Mr Geddes may have been struck by a vehicle. They are following a number of lines of enquiry in relation to this. A car and its driver have been traced and enquiries continue to gather more details.”
