Two men stabbed to death street as police issue update on 'isolated incident'

A man has been detained on suspicions of homicide after a stabbing incident that claimed the lives of two men in Moss Side, Manchester, leaving the community reeling from the tragedy. In the small hours of Sunday morning, emergency responders rushed to Great Southern Street following reports of a brutal knife attack.

Two unidentified men were discovered with fatal injuries and were pronounced deceased at the scene.

Greater Manchester Police have disclosed the arrest of a man in his 20s in connection with the double murder. A constabulary representative stated: "He remains in custody for questioning and we are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident," and added, "We are treating this as an isolated incident with no threat to the wider public."

The area of Great Southern Street has been cordoned off as police forensic teams conduct their investigation. The security perimeter is strictly maintained by officers, including armed response units.

Coverage from the Manchester Evening News observed the heavy police presence at the location, reports the Mirror.

During a press briefing held on Sunday afternoon by Chief Superintendent Dave Meeney of Greater Manchester Police, he expressed his condolences: "This morning two lives have been lost in our community, and our thoughts go to their families who have lost a loved one today."

"We have launched a murder investigation, and detectives from our Major Incident Team continue to work diligently conducting CCTV trawls and speaking to witnesses to find out what has happened to the victims. We swiftly made an arrest this morning and we are not looking for anyone else in relation to this," a spokesperson said. "We are treating it as an isolated incident with no wider threat to the public."

They added: "We understand the shockwaves that this devastating news will have caused in the local community and further afield across Greater Manchester."

"We have placed a number of local neighbourhood officers in the area to conduct visible patrols to reassure the community. If you have any concerns, please speak to them, they are there to lend a listening ear."

"I'd like to thank the local community who have all really pulled together and cooperated with our enquiries. We also understand that our cordon may prevent people from going about their daily lives, officers are working hard to ensure that the community can return to normality as swiftly as possible."
