Police have launched an urgent appeal for information after a teenage girl was reportedly chased down a street and bundled into a car.

The girl, who is described as mid-to-late teens and roughly 5ft 5ins tall, was seen by members of the public being followed and forced into a vehicle in the town of Wincanton, Somerset.

Avon and Somerset Police said the incident happened in the town of Wincanton, with the exact location reported to be the junction connecting The Batch and Shadwell Lane, reports the Mirror.

The driver of the vehicle described by police as white, aged in his early 20's, of medium build, with light brown hair and as being slightly taller than the girl.

The vehicle involved in the incident is reported as being a dark-coloured, five-door hatchback and it is thought that there were multiple people inside at the time of the apparent kidnapping.

Neighbourhood Inspector Rose Green said of the shocking incident: “This will understandably cause significant concern and a thorough investigation is already well underway to fully establish the circumstances and ensure the girl is safe.”

Enquiries are ongoing, Neighbourhood Rose Green assured residents, and police are scouring CCTV footage in the area.

Anyone who may have witnessed the incident or anybody with information that might be relevant to the police investigation has been asked to come forward.
