Humza Yousaf has posed for a photograph with his "childhood hero" Henrik Larsson. The former first minister said it was an "enormous pleasure" to meet the Celtic legend on Thursday night.
The well-known Hoops supporter said it was "complete rubbish" that you shouldn't meet your heroes and he was not "disappointed" after talking to the Swede. He praised the former striker as "a lovely gent, generous, thoughtful, and full of humility".
The MSP for Glasgow Pollok posted on X on Friday morning: "They say you shouldn't meet your heroes, you will only be disappointed. Complete rubbish! I had the enormous pleasure of meeting my childhood hero Henrik Larsson last night. What a lovely gent, generous, thoughtful, and full of humility. Thank you Henrik for the memories!"
Yousaf has openly spoken about his love for the Scottish Premiership leaders, saying he would have liked to be involved in the club if he was not in politics. He said he has been a Celtic supporter since he was six years old . He did not hide this when he was first minister because it "would be a bit ridiculous" to pretend he was not a Hoops fan.
Larsson is regarded as one of the best-ever Celtic players. He played for the club between 1997 and 2004, winning four league titles. He scored 242 goals in 313 matches , including both goals in the 2003 Uefa Cup Final defeat.
The 53-year-old joined Barcelona after leaving the Bhoys and set up two goals in the 2006 Champions League final. Yousaf was first minister between March 2023 and May this year. He has been an MSP since 2011.
