Man charged after pensioner dies in horror crash on busy Glasgow road

The 86-year-old pedestrian died in hospital six days after the tragic incident.

A man has been charged after a car struck a pensioner on a busy road in Glasgow.

Emergency crews scrambled to Stamperland Crescent at Clarkston Toll at around 5.20pm Friday, May, 17 after a Mercedes GLE struck an 86-year-old pedestrian.

The pensioner was rushed to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital with serious injuries, but sadly died in hospital six days later, on Thursday, May 23.

A 55-year-old man has been charged with causing death by careless driving and a report has been submitted to the Procurator Fiscal. He is expected to appear in court in due course.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "A man has been charged in connection with a fatal crash at Clarkston Toll. The incident happened on Stamperland Crescent around 5.20pm Friday, 17 May, 2024.

"It involved an 86-year-old pedestrian and a Mercedes GLE. The pedestrian was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital with serious injuries. He died in hospital on Thursday, 23 May. No one else was injured.
