Man arrested over 'murder' of Glasgow woman Sandie Butler

A man has been arrested after a woman was dead in Glasgow on Tuesday afternoon. Sandie Butler was found seriously injured after police were called to a report of a disturbance on St Mungo Avenue in the Townhead area of the city around 12.55pm on October 29.

The 40-year-old was pronounced dead a short time later. Following a post-mortem examination on Wednesday, detectives confirmed they were treating the death as murder.

Police announced on Friday that a 53-year-old man has been arrested in connection with her death. Enquiries are continuing to establish the full circumstances.

Tributes poured in for Sandie following the shocking news of her passing earlier this week, many describing her as a "lovely" woman who looked out for others.

Lorraine Grant wrote: "Omg Sandie, I'm so so sorry to hear this. I'll never forget the help you gave my sister, my thoughts are with your family and friends at this sad time xxx."

Charmain Hunter added: "Omg no, not Sandie, she was such a lovely person. I met her the day she came to Ness and kept in touch since. Oh doll, my heart breaks for u pet. RIP Sandie, 'til we meet on the other side xoxoxo"

Maud Skieff chimed: "Really sad hearing this. What a lovely girl. Rest in Peace. Sending condolences to her family and friends x"

Detectives said there would be an increased police prescence in the area as there investigation continued on Wednesday.

Detective Chief Inspector Lynsey Watters, of the Major Investigation Team, previously said: “Our enquiries are ongoing and an extensive investigation is underway to establish the full circumstances surrounding this death.

“There remains an increased police presence in the area as the investigation continues. We are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed anything around the time of this incident to please contact police.

“In addition, members of the public are asked to check their private CCTV or dash-cam footage as this may be significant in assisting us with our enquiries.”
