Princess Anne's heartbreaking question for Harry after he missed the Queen's death

Prince Harry was in London with Meghan Markle when he missed the death of his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, and was asked a difficult question by his aunt, Princess Anne when he finally arrived.

Prince Harry faced a deeply emotional question from Princess Anne after learning he had missed the passing of Queen Elizabeth II.

While in London with Meghan Markle, Prince Harry received a call from his father, the then-Prince Charles, alerting them to the Queen's failing health on September 8, 2022. Royal biographer Robert Jobson alleges that Charles "banned" Meghan from joining the journey to Scotland.

Harry claims his father later specified "no wives" should come to see the Queen, leading to Kate Middleton also remaining in London with her and Prince William's three children.

This prompted Harry to arrange for a private jet alone, Gloucestershire Live reports.

Departing from Luton Airport, his flight was scheduled to arrive in Scotland at 8pm. However, by the time he landed, the news of the Queen's death had already broken.

In his autobiography Spare, Harry shares: "When the plane started to descend I saw that my phone lit up. It was a message from Meg: 'Call me when you get this. I looked at the BBC website. My grandmother had died. My father was King."

Upon reaching Balmoral, Harry was met by his aunt, Princess Royal, who had been staying with the 96-year-old monarch at the Scottish estate. He recalls the touching question Anne asked him upon his arrival.

He writes: "She asked if I wanted to see Granny. [I answered,] 'Yes, I do.'".

Harry opened up about feeling that his grandmother's bedroom seemed "unfamiliar" during a visit, as reported by a US magazine. He found the experience "difficult" but was moved by thoughts of previous regret for not seeing his late mother at the end.

Now at 40, Harry has voiced his respect for his grandmother's dedication to her duties, working right up until the end. Notably, the Queen held an audience with then-Prime Minister Liz Truss a mere 48 hours before she passed away.

Truss succeeded Boris Johnson as Prime Minister on September 6, only to step down after 49 days, recording the briefest tenure of any British PM.
