A leading Palestinian campaigner was arrested following a protest at Barclays Bank in Glasgow city centre on Saturday.

Mike Napier, who leads the Scottish Palestine Solidarity Campaign, is due to appear at court at a later date. Police confirmed they were called to a disturbance at Barclay's on Argyle Street at around 11am.

A march for Gaza took place on Saturday morning and went from Kelvin Grove to the steps at Buchanan Galleries. Social media posts from the Gaza Genocide Emergency Committee, who organised the march, show a protest later started at Barclays.

A group of protesters occupied the branch on Argyle Street calling for a boycott of the bank which they say is providing financial investment to Israel. They claimed that they closed the branch.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 11am on Saturday, 12 October 2024, police attended a report of a disturbance at Barclays Bank on Argyle Street, Glasgow.

"A 77-year-old man was arrested following the incident. He is due to be released on an Undertaking to appear at court at a later date. A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal."
