A man has left social media users spooked after claiming he's able to "read their mind" with a card trick.

The trick has been freaking out TikTok users as illusionist @alakazammagicshop leaves viewers utterly perplexed by how he seems to penetrate the thoughts of those tuning in from their homes.

He racked up hundreds of thousands of views as spectators fixate on five cards, which audiences are told to choose from. The act involves spectators choosing any one of the five cards displayed on their screens; should their choice vanish by the trick's conclusion, then it's proof @alakazammagicshop has triumphantly read their minds.

Featuring the King of Spades, Queen of Clubs, Jack of Hearts, King of Diamonds, and Queen of Hearts, the magician confidently picks out the card he feels his viewers will select, presenting a reshuffled hand minus one card – but all changed.

Flabbergasted fans are singing his praises, branding him an "awesome psychic" beyond their ability to deceive. One baffled person shared: "I tried to trick him by picking different cards each time... but he knew every time! Awesome psychic and worth a follow!" Another bemused user commented: "Fantastic work... I picked my cards... every time and you're right! how did you do that?"

Some eagle-eyed viewers were onto the trick displayed by @alakazammagicshop though, with several claiming the magician would always be right as it seemed not just one card was missing, but every card had changed. One user expressed their frustration: "K spades K diamonds Q hearts J hearts Q clubs... then you show totally different cards."

Others have come to the defence of what has been termed by one user as the "oldest trick in the book,", with some asking the displeased to let the magician "have his fun".

One user light-heartedly commented: "Funny, how the Queen of hearts turned into the Queen of diamonds? Must be magic." Another responded: "He flips the cards over when he turned them... the other end of the cards have a different symbol."

The contentious trick has divided TikTok users, but thousands engaged with the act and were initially amazed by the sleight of hand performed by @alakazammagicshop.
