Scots amputee gutted at lifeline £9000 motorhome theft as cops probe continues

Due to his ill health, former black cab driver Joe hasn't been able to leave the house much except for hospital visits.

A Scots amputee has been left gutted after his "lifeline" £9000 motorhome was stolen as a police investigation into the incident continues.

Joe McSwiggan went through a trying 14 months after he ended up hospitalised with sepsis and went on to have two heart attacks and a stroke before the latest incident that saw his campervan nicked from outside the sheltered housing he stays in on Saturday, October 12.

The 62-year-old was alerted by his cousin that the vehicle was not where it was usually parked and said he was left "scunnered" after realising that his vehicle had been stolen.

Due to his ill health, former black cab driver Joe hasn't been able to leave the house much except for hospital visits. But he had planned to get away for a break in his campervan once he felt better—however, that dream has now been "snatched away" from him.

Joe told Glasgow Live : "I’ve hardly gone out in the last year, other than going to hospital appointments. I aimed to get back on my feet, get out in my campervan and get away.

"It was my lifeline which has been snatched away from me, I’ve been in tears all night. Please give me my van back, I’d like my life back."

Joe's friend Edward Black has created a GoFundMe page to "make his life a little bit better" in case the caravan isn't found, while Police Scotland have confirmed that their investigation remains ongoing.

A spokesperson for the force said: "Around 3.20pm on Saturday, October 12, we received a report of the theft of campervan in the Harrow Court area of Glasgow. Enquiries are ongoing."
