Police are investigating after vandals slashed tyres and scratched paintwork on dozens of cars across Glasgow.

Cops were called to Orkney Place In Govan on Monday, September 30, after shocked owners discovered hundreds of pounds worth of damage to their cars.

Resident Rion McKerron told how he was woke up by his brother telling him what had happened. He said: "My brother had noticed that cars along the street had been damaged when he was heading to work. He woke me up with the news about 8.30am.

"I came out and saw that four cars had been targeted including mine. The two tyres facing the road had been slashed. One of my brothers, a neighbour and two of another neighbours were also done."

Rion told Glasgow Live that he contacted the police and was told by officers that as many as 20 cars had been targeted, and police were looking into the idea the damage was linked to the new Partick to Govan bridge.

He added: "They estimated there were between 15 to 20 cars that had been targeted that night. I asked what they thought the motive might be and they said it could be someone with mental health issues.

"However, they also said someone might have an issue that the parking has become impossible since the new bridge was built. The police said we got let off lightly though as some people had all four tyres punctured and things scratched into the paint work.

"I asked what sort of things and they said things like Govan Young Team and Pollock Young Team. However, they said that on the CCTV they could only see one guy, not a gang.

"They said that they might be trying to deflect and make people think it was a gang."

Rion was left more than £140 out of pocket after being forced to buy brand new tyres as the local garage ran out of the part worn due to the amount of people needing them replaced following the incident.

He added: "Govan has had a bad reputation since we moved here seven years ago but nothing like this has happened before. We've never had any trouble. For this to happen, it's a shock."

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “On the morning of Monday, September 30, we received reports of vehicles being vandalised in the Orkney Place area of Glasgow. Enquiries are ongoing.”
