Kirkcudbright and Gatehouse Probus Club held their regular monthly lunch meeting at the Selkirk Arms in Kirkcudbright on October 14.

After opening remarks from the chair, Malcolm Oldfield, a minute’s silence and reflection to mark the passing of an old member was held. Bill Shepherd, an ex Merchant Navy captain and thoroughly nice gentleman, will be greatly missed.

The meeting also took the opportunity to welcome a new member and to look forward to his company from now on.

After a delightful lunch members were treated to an illustrated talk based around some historical myths and false claims. These ranged from the Pyramids to the Vikings and from the Alamo to the Holocaust. Some questions and a brief, but interesting discussion followed.
